The state security forces and institutions feel “betrayed”. And the fact is that the government’s attempts to reform Law 4/2015 on the security of citizens not only lead to “legal uncertainty”, but also to a worrying loss of respect for the officers who are exposed to attacks and threats in their daily work.
This is what happened last weekend when two trainee community service officers were “cornered” at the Ébano discotheque in Peñíscola after being recognised as members of the police corps.At the discotheque, a group of five people of different nationalities, mainly Moroccans, who are known criminals in the area, recognised the civilian officers and started harassing them inside the club. “We are waiting for you outside,” was the threat. In view of this, the officers decided not to leave the discotheque but to wait until it was closed, believing that they had left the discotheque but were waiting for them. When the club was closed, they appeared and shouted:”We Arabs have the say here”, pointed out that the Guardia Civil had no business in this place and started to attack the officers.
According to LA RAZÓN, up to ten people were arrested as being involved in the attack. Among the attackers was a Dominican, a convert to Islam and member of the boxing federation, who not only punched the officers several times, but also asked the others to join in.
However, this is not the only incident that has been committed against civilian police officers in Valencia in less than seven days.
On Friday, a group of Menas – unaccompanied foreign minors – were arrested by the Guardia Civil, who are also known to the agents for their constant offences. That day they received new information: They had kidnapped a young woman at knifepoint and taken her to the ATMs to rob her.
After they were arrested and brought before a judge, the judge ordered the transfer of one of the Mena brothers to the Vinaroz Juvenile Detention Centre (Comunidad Valenciana). When this unaccompanied foreign minor was brought in, he began to self-harm with a knife of the type used for butter. When the officers tried to knock him down, the minor injured a guard and got a cut on his finger. He then pointed the knife at the other officer and stabbed him in the thigh, although the knife did not penetrate the flesh as it had a blunt tip.
The Ministry of the Interior pledged in September to set up special groups within the National Police and the Guardia Civil to deal with hate crime prosecutions in the central and provincial intelligence services.
