More and more Austrians are turning their backs on the growing number of migrants from Islamic countries. New figures now show that the asylum policy is still too lax.
A recent survey by Unique Research shows a critical view of Islam among the Austrian population. According to the survey, 76 per cent of respondents are in favour of greater control of mosques by the authorities. In addition, more than two thirds are of the opinion that women in Muslim communities are discriminated against more. One in two consider the headscarf to be a symbol of oppression.
The country is divided when it comes to the fear of Islamist terror: 48 per cent of respondents express concern, while 47 per cent do not share this concern.
Further results show a sceptical view: 62 percent consider Islam to be more violent than other religions, and 55 percent see greater integration hurdles for Muslims than for other immigrants. Accordingly, 61 per cent are of the opinion that Austria should reduce the immigration of Muslims. On the other hand, just under a third (27 per cent) believe that Muslims are discriminated against in Austria.
The survey, which was published in ‘’Pragmaticus‘’, took place between the 19th of September and the 8th of October 2024 and surveyed 800 people.
