Survey: Majority calls for a ban on Islamism in Austria

According to a new survey, more and more Austrians are calling for the state to take more intensive action against the spread of Islamism in this country. The free newspaper ‘Heute’ wanted to know from its readers whether they were in favour of a law banning Islamism, similar to the one that exists for National Socialist reactivation. And the vote is clear: 67 per cent of Austrians are clearly in favour.

What is also particularly interesting is the approval according to the voting preferences of the respondents: Freedom Party (83 per cent), Greens (74 per cent), Beer Party (73 per cent), Austrian People’s Party (70 per cent) and New Democrats (64 per cent). The voters of the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) came last with 56 per cent, which nevertheless means that one in two of them is in favour of a ban on Islamism in Austria. ‘There seems to be a relatively high level of approval here, which reflects the concern about increasing Islamism and the desire for political countermeasures,’ says political scientist and Islamism expert Nina Scholz, summarising the results of the survey on the short messaging service X (formerly Twitter).
