As part of the German Islam Conference (DIK), Islamic scholars have been trained as imams at the so-called ‘Islam College’ in Osnabrück since 2021. The German Federal Ministry of the Interior is funding this with taxpayers’ money. The total funding costs: 5 million euros, with the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science also providing an additional 500,000 euros in funding. Politicians from the CDU, SPD, FDP and the Greens also have a seat on the board of trustees of the Islamkolleg. It was not until 2023 that Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) renegotiated the imam training programme on German soil. The result: Germany’s largest Islamic association, the politically Islamic and anti-Semitic DITIB, is to train its imams in Germany and no longer send them from Turkey. Instead, the Islamist DITIB is to run the imam training on the basis of a training programme in Dahlem (North Rhine-Westphalia) and in cooperation with the Islam College.
Explosive: an imam who is already known to the domestic intelligence service as an Islamist has now completed his training at the state-sponsored Islamic college in Osnabrück. This was made public by a media report in the Bild newspaper.
In plain language: Nancy Faeser trained an Islamist whom her own security authorities had under surveillance. Specifically, it is the Islamic scholar Ebadullah Maulawy Abdullah. The devout Muslim has been the imam of the Tawheed Mosque in Hamburg for eight years. For years, the Hamburg mosque scene has repeatedly attracted attention for its links to Salafism and Islamism. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has also observed Islamists attending this organisation – including supporters of the Islamist Hizb ut-Tahrir movement, which is banned in Germany.
Abdullah is already known to the German security authorities as an Islamist. At the presentation of the training certificate from the Islam College Osnabrück, Ebadullah Maulawy thanked Abdullah Germany via a Facebook post for ‘bringing this programme into being’.
Strikingly, his Facebook channel contains hate posts against Israel. For example, he writes about the Jewish state: ‘Damn the oppressors and their bloodthirsty supporters.’
