This morning, officers from the Berlin State Office of Criminal Investigation searched the flat of a 29-year-old man in an apartment block on Sonnenallee in the Neukölln district of Berlin on suspicion of a serious threat to the state with the assistance of special task forces on behalf of the Berlin Public Prosecutor General’s Office. The man was arrested on the basis of a previously obtained arrest warrant and will be brought before an investigating judge today for the delivery of the arrest warrant. The accused, a German national, is suspected of having decided between November 2023 and May 2024 to take part in the fighting on the side of the militant Islamist Hizb Allah following Hamas’ attack on the State of Israel from the 7th of October 2023. At the end of 2023, he is said to have travelled to Lebanon, himself adhering to radical Islamist ideology, in order to undergo training in firearms and weapons of war by Hizb Allah, which was active in the country and which he supported. The aim of the training was to be able to carry out acts of violence such as murder, manslaughter, extortionate kidnapping and hostage-taking to destroy the state of Israel. This training actually took place in the first half of 2024. The search led to the discovery of mobile phones, which are now being investigated in the course of the ongoing investigation.
