There’s something deeply rotten in the state of California.
Like most pro-crime measures, California’s Proposition 57 was a horrifying disaster that people warned about. And yet were ignored as lefties and libertarians, and their useful idiots, cheered the idea of ‘criminal justice reform’.
Prop 57 followed in the footsteps of Prop 47 in dismantling California’s tough criminal justice measures and turning the system into a revolving door for career criminals and assorted monsters.
Billionaires Reed Hastings, Dustin Moskovitz, George Soros, Tom Steyer and Mark Zuckerberg helped bankroll Proposition 57, which passed yesterday with nearly two-thirds of the vote. The measure will improve parole options for nonviolent felons and let judges to decide whether to try juveniles as adults.
Other donors included Hastings, CEO of Netflix, and Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, both of whom contributed around $1 million, and Facebook cofounder Moskowitz and hedge fund billionaire Soros, who both put in $500,000 through their political action groups.
The measure’s financial backers also included actor Robert Downey Jr.; singer-songwriter John Legend; and Kaitlyn Trigger Krieger, wife of Instagram cofounder Mike Krieger.
Here are the monstrous consequences.
More than 7,000 sex offenders were convicted of ‘lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age’ but were let out of prison the same year they were incarcerated, data from the California Megan’s Law database says.
Others who committed some of the worst child sex crimes on the statute books served similarly short sentences, including 365 pedophiles convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child who spent less than 12 months in prison, 39 cases of sodomy with a child under 16, and three cases of kidnapping a child under 14 ‘with intent to commit lewd or lascivious acts’, according to the data.
One offender in the database is Reseda, resident Carlos Alexander Nahue, 48, who was convicted of ‘continuous sexual abuse of a child’ in 2015.
His Los Angeles court records say he was charged in October 2014 and pled no contest to the crime in January 2015 – but was sentenced to just two days in an LA county jail and five years of probation.
He now lives one block from Royal Montessori School daycare and three blocks from Reseda Elementary School, according to the Megan’s Law database.
One child abuse prosecutor in the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office told DailyMail.com the situation was ‘a disgrace’.
Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami added that the problem of short prison time for pedophiles was getting worse, not better. He blamed Proposition 57, a 2016 bill allowing early parole for nonviolent felons which was supported by his boss, LA DA George Gascón.
‘Thousands of child victims are being denied justice and George Gascón and his group of radical prosecutors can care less,’ Hatami said.
CEO Reed Hastings inflicted Gascon on Los Angeles. And considering Netflix’s content sexualizing children, maybe that’s not too surprising.
Netflix is encouraging subscribers to watch the French film “Cuties,” despite a petition to remove the film and the trending hashtag #CancelNetflix.
The backlash began when the film’s artwork debuted in late August and drew criticism on social media for showing the film’s cast of children in midriff-baring uniforms and short shorts striking various dance poses. Netflix issued an apology for the “inappropriate” artwork promoting the film, which follows 11-year-old Amy’s struggle to find her identity amid contrasting cultures.
But by Sunday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., had doubled down on his criticism of the movie.
” ‘Cuties’ sexualizes 11-year-old girls, and it’s disgusting and wrong. That’s why I’ve asked AG Barr to investigate whether Netflix, its executives, or the filmmakers violated any federal laws against the production and distribution of child pornography,” Cruz tweeted Sunday, along with video of his remarks about the film on Fox News.
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., has also spoken out against Netflix on Twitter.
“Last year, @netflix lectured conservative states for passing pro-life laws to protect unborn children. Now, @netflix peddles child pornography. At least @netflix is consistent,” he wrote on Twitter Saturday morning.
It certainly is. And the consequences go beyond the screen.
