On Monday April 1st, a Russian from Chechnya was arrested in the Seine-et-Marne department with an entry in the file of dangerous Islamist individuals after refusing to comply with orders, Le Parisien has learnt from police sources. The suspect had been spotted on the Place de la Bastille in Paris after running several red lights. In view of the driver’s dangerous behaviour, the police intervened and attempted to carry out a check.
However, the suspect fled. A police chase then began. Several vehicles were deployed to stop the man. However, the officers lost sight of the driver on the A4 motorway.
Thanks to the identification of the vehicle’s licence plate number, the suspect’s address was located in the Lagny-sur-Marne area in the Seine-et-Marne department. The officers discovered that the man also had an entry in the S file and, above all, that he had already been apprehended with a knife near the Eiffel Tower on March 18.
Officers from the Lagny-sur-Marne police station finally arrested the suspect at his home.
He allegedly tried to flee and then made statements regarding his S file. He was taken into police custody. Since the Vigipirate measures were raised to the highest level on March 25 following the attack in Moscow, the authorities have been keeping a very close eye on certain profiles.
