Whatever a government publicly desires, it appears as though the lawyer classes will always find one human rights clause or another to do the opposite.
There have been numerous calls this week for Parliament—and therefore, ultimately, the British people—to have control over who can settle in the UK, rather than judges. This comes after a court granted Palestinian migrants the right to live in the country.
A family of six seeking to leave Gaza and join a brother in Britain applied through a scheme meant for Ukrainian refugees and were originally refused on the grounds their case was outside the programme’s rules. Understandable, given that they are Palestinian, not Ukrainian.
But a report in the Telegraph reveals that this decision has since been overturned by an upper tribunal judge—the son of a former ‘anti-Israeli’ Guardian journalist—on the basis of their right to a family life under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
This judge, said Alp Mehmet of Migration Watch UK, “epitomises the thinking of our courts and judges when it comes to immigration and asylum.” He told europeanconservative.com:
They see themselves as the ultimate decision-makers and guardians of the rights of migrants and asylum seekers. The rights of the British public, who foot the hefty bill, are overridden and trampled on with alacrity.
Critics are particularly concerned by this ruling because of the door it opens to more Gazans being granted the right to live in the UK under a scheme set up for Ukrainians.
“We do not want more pro-Hamas, antisemitic attitudes being brought into the UK,” said Reform chairman Richard Tice, noting that “other Arab nations will not accept them, and nor should we.”

Think tanker Sam Bidwell added that after this case, and many others like it, the immigration tribunal system should not simply be reformed but scrapped altogether. Mehmet agreed, telling this publication:

The home office claims there is no resettlement scheme for Palestinians, and that such cases will be contested, but it is easy to imagine their disputes being thrown out of court. Likewise, Labour prime minister Keir Starmer said today he thought the ruling was wrong, but is unlikely to be able to overturn it.
The ruling is further proof that Starmer’s migration rhetoric is of little-to-no worth while ECHR rules continue to apply—not that any more proof was needed. This could be said to make a mockery of democratic systems, though the government is within its rights to democratically withdraw from the ECHR, if it so wishes.
A trans-identified male in Dortmund, Germany, is facing scrutiny after winning over €250,000 over the course of 240 separate discrimination lawsuits. Many have accused the man, who has been unemployed for 12 years, of using Germany’s strict protections for those who self-identify as transgender to enrich himself.
Apart from three internships and one short-term job, the trans-identified man has been unemployed since 2012 and receives public welfare. While Germany has strict privacy laws that have resulted in the man’s identity being censored, Reduxx can reveal his name as Alina Steffen.
In a recent interview with Westphalen Blatt, Steffen claimed to have applied for over 1,577 jobs over the last eight years, but reported he has struggled to find a position. But critics have accused Steffen of running something akin to a racket, labelling him an “AGG-hopper.” The German slang term refers to individuals who do not apply for a job with the intention of actually taking it up, but rather to receive compensation for alleged violations of anti-discrimination laws.
Steffen has been known to apply for jobs he does not actually qualify for throughout the North Rhine-Westphalia region. For example, in one instance he applied for a job which was a one-hour drive from his home despite the fact he does not have a driver’s license and cannot drive.
But the moment Steffen receives a rejection from a job he applies for, he files a lawsuit citing a violation of the German Equal Treatment Act (AGG). Steffen has also filed lawsuits for jobs he never applied for, but found to be “discriminatory” in advance by focusing on minor errors in the job advertisements.
For example, in one case, an advertisement omitted to specify that people of “diverse” genders can apply, and only stated that “male and female” applicants were welcome. Steffen sued over this omission and won.
Despite being on welfare, the hefty compensation awarded to Steffen by labor courts in various districts is not offset against his welfare benefits and is tax-free. As a result, Steffen is collecting welfare and raking in hundreds of thousands of Euros in court awards.
The director of the Bielefeld labor court, Joachim Kleveman, estimated that Steffen has so far won approximately €250,000 (approx. $257,000 USD) from various discrimination suits. Due to welfare checks, Steffen must regularly provide lists of his compensation payments. This year, Steffen has already reported winnings of €25,000.
Most recently, Steffen successfully sued ND-Rack, a company from Langenberg that distributes roof tents for cars and other camping-related gear. Niusreported on the case, noting that in his application, Steffen described himself as being 50% disabled, and a “male to female” transsexual as well as “intersex.”

Steffen justified his lawsuit before the labor court by arguing that he was rejected because of his disability and sexual identity. He also felt discriminated against due to his age, as the company advertised that it was looking for workers for its “young team.”
Moreover, the position was not reported to the employment agency, which is legally required for jobs that could be suitable for people with disabilities, and he demanded €7,500 in compensation.
Nikolaj Dudenko, the CEO of ND-Rack in Langenberg, explained that he did not intend to discriminate against anyone and only read the first sentence of the application.
“We receive 450 applications a year. I immediately filter out all applicants who live more than 30 kilometers away because experience shows they quit after a year,” he told RTL West. He did not read further and rejected the application immediately. He was not aware that he was required to report the position to the employment office.
During the hearing, Dudenko tried to offer Steffen a position, but the man declined out of fear of being dismissed during the probationary period. The court suggested a settlement of €3,750 in compensation. The CEO felt this was unfair and accused Steffen of using the discrimination lawsuits to enrich himself. He ultimately offered €2,500 in compensation, but Steffen insisted on €3,750 as per the court’s suggestion. The entrepreneur reluctantly accepted the settlement.
According to the State Labor Court in Hamm, Steffen’s repeat litigation does not constitute an abuse of law.
Recently, another hearing took place at the labor court in Hagen. In this case, Steffen is suing a printing company for discrimination. According to RTL West, his application was rejected due to insufficient qualifications, not, as he claimed, because of his transexuality.

“The reason I generally do not want to appear before the press is that I am withdrawing from public life because I am very much discriminated against in private, laughed at on buses, and insulted in the city because of my transsexuality,” Steffen said.
Alina Dünnebacke, responsible for personnel at the printing company, explained she had rejected the applicant due to having inadequate qualifications. But despite arguing that Steffen was clearly incapable of performing the job, the company paid out a small settlement of €700.
In addition to his lengthy history of court battles, Steffen is a self-published author who sells ebooks for less than one euro on neobooks.com. Among his publications are books on job hunting, including one titled “The Professional Application.” The book describes itself as offering expert advice on finding a job. Another book written by Steffen is called “Tips for the Perfect Job Interview.”
Early on Wednesday morning, a 15-year-old was arrested in Bolzano on suspicion of involvement in a terrorist organisation. He is accused of several serious offences, including the manufacture and use of explosive devices and the dissemination of extremist content.
The investigation was launched following information about the young man’s extremist activities. A house search revealed incriminating material: two computers, a smartphone, an axe and evidence of his membership of a group. According to investigators, the teenager was active in extremist Telegram groups. A so-called ‘week of terror’ was planned there, in which a defenceless person was to be murdered and the act filmed. The 15-year-old is said to have actively worked on the realisation of the plan and planted the group’s symbols in public places. He also experimented with explosives and documented his attempts on video.
Shortly before his arrest, he sent a message to the group: ‘I have the police on the door’. Investigators discovered disturbing material on his smartphone: videos of acts of violence, school massacres and extremist propaganda content, including recordings of the Islamic State. They also found child pornography. His internet research focussed on the emotional state of terrorists during their acts and the perception of pain suffered by suicide bombers, the police reported in a press release.
After the police measures were completed, he was transferred to a juvenile detention centre in Treviso. Investigations to uncover further connections are ongoing.

Britain’s leftist Labour Party government has put forward a resident of Finland as its candidate for border watchdog, who suggested he may work from home in the Nordic nation.
John Tuckett, 73, was announced last month as the government’s “preferred candidate” for the role of Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration (ICIBI).
However, his nomination has come into question after he told MPs in a confirmation hearing that he is a “resident of Finland” and suggested he would prefer a “60/40” split between Britain and Finland if he is chosen as the UK’s next border watchdog, dividing his time between being “visible” for appointments and “dedicated time wherever” for “quiet reflection” and drafting reports, the Daily Mailreported.
While Mr Tuckett said that he could work five days per week in London if necessary, he said that in his current role as Immigration Services Commissioner, he works fully remotely after having shut down his UK office in favour of working over a thousand miles away from the country.
In an exchange with Labour MP Chris Murray in the home affairs select committee on Monday, Tuckett was asked if he lived within “commuting distance” of London, to which he replied: “No, I don’t. I have a family home in Finland, and I come across to this country whenever I need to.”
“You’d be expecting to inspect the UK borders and immigration without being resident in the UK?” Murray questioned.
“No, I work in UK, and I would be in UK,” Tuckett said, but added that he is not a resident of the UK, admitting: “I’m resident in Finland”.
In an exchange during Prime Minister’s Questions on Tuesday, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch criticised the selection of Tuckett, accusing the government of not being “serious” about immigration if its proposed border watchdog doesn’t live in the UK.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer noted, however, that Tuckett had originally been appointed in 2019 under a Conservative government and had shut down his office in favour of remote work in Finland under the Tories. Starmer also claimed that Tuckett would work full-time from Britain if appointed.
It comes as the Labour government is attempting to rebrand itself as tough on immigration amid the rise of Nigel Farage’s populist Reform UK party, which in a little over half a year after the last election, has surpassed the Labour Party in the polls, in large part due to Reform’s strong stance on borders.
Part of this push has seen the Home Office publish footage of illegal migrant deportations this week; however, critics have noted that the claimed 19,000 removals under Labour pale in comparison to the estimated million-plus illegals living in the country. Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe said that there should be deportation flights taking off every hour.
Nevertheless, the removals have sparked a backlash from within the Labour Party and from pro-open borders advocates. Labour MP Clive Lewis accused the government of “enabling the mainstreaming of racism” by showing migrant deportations and the leftist NGO Detention Action described it as an “act of performative cruelty”.
On Wednesday, the government said it would be issuing guidance to immigration officials that illegals should not be eligible for citizenship.
Yet, former immigration minister Robert Jenrick noted that Labour is seeking to repeal legislation from the former Tory government, which prohibited illegals from applying for citizenship.
Jenrick wrote on X: “Starmer is repealing the 2023 law which blanket bans illegal migrants from becoming British citizens, but says he’ll sort it with some new ‘guidance’ to civil servants. Pathetically weak.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, standing next to Alice Weidel, co-chair of Germany’s hard-right AfD, at a joint press conference in Budapsest has said he had invited her because “we wanted to see a brave woman who is a political leader and a freedom fighter”.
“The AfD is not a party whose leader is welcomed by prime ministers in every European country but it is time to change that,” he said on February 12.
In Germany, mainstream political parties have built a “firewall” around the AfD to block any co-operation in government. That came despite AfD showing support of 20 per cent at national level, which puts it second to the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the run-up to the national elections on February 23.
Until now, Orbán said, there was a “very real obstacle” to Hungary’s relationship with AfD and that was: “Is it in Hungary’s key interest to have good relations with the German Government?”
That was why, he said, he was “wary of the AfD before but I thought that everything would change now … it was obvious that the AfD was the future”.
The moment had come, he said, when “no one, including the German Government, can punish the relationship with the AfD in the dimension of interstate relations. That’s how much support the AfD has”.
Weidel said, following her discussions with Orbán on Europe: “Europe doesn’t have a leader, it doesn’t have leadership.”
She continued: “In the current situation, when Donald Trump has indeed come on the scene as the new President of the United States, it would be very important for Europe to have someone who can actually sit down at the negotiating table but there is no such person in Europe because it’s such a bureaucratic business.
“The US has no contact person and the strong countries – Germany and France – are strong because of their size and their population, but they don’t have leaders either.
“Our country, Germany, has become weak. It has become a weak country with weak leadership,” Weidel continued.
“The country’s economic policy is also weak. We have had our energy policy backbone destroyed by a completely misguided green policy started by Angela Merkel, and Angela Merkel has destroyed our country.”
As for the European Union, Weidel said Europe had to build “strong, self-aware” nations: “This can be achieved by reducing the competences of the European Union. We need to dismantle the whole expensive bureaucratic and, in my opinion, corrupt structure,” she said.
The leadership of the EU, she said, “is not a committee chosen by the voters, it is not [European Commission President Ursula] von der Leyen, she is not elected yet, so it is not the voters who have elected her. Competence, sovereignty, decisions should really be taken in elected national parliaments”.
Orbán replied: “I am convinced that Europe is in very big trouble, the European Union is in very big trouble.
“The problem is that the economic policy being pursued in Brussels today condemns us to defeat in the face of our global economic rivals.
“Migration has an economic impact, and that too must be changed, but the most important thing is to admit that the green deal is dead.
“It cannot be reformed, it cannot be rejuvenated, it cannot be reformulated, it simply has to be forgotten,” said Orbán.
The AfD has, until now, been considered extreme even by the European Parliament’s right-wing, with parties such as France’s National Rally refusing to sit in the same group in the Strasbourg-based assembly.
Industry has also put pressure on political parties across the EU to distance themselves from the AfD.
Weidel and her party have, on the other hand, received strong support from US tech billionaire Elon Musk, who has been given a key role in the new Trump administration.

Polish prosecutors requested a three-year prison sentence for this ‘hate crime,’ while leftists in the European Parliament began the procedure to strip Jaki of his diplomatic immunity for “inciting hatred against Muslim immigrants.”
The trial of the co-chair of the European Conservative and Reformist (ECR) group comes against the backdrop of Polish PM Donald Tusk’s entire liberal government becoming the subject of an official probe over a suspected “coup d’etat” last week due to its blatant rule-of-law violations, such as ignoring high-level judicial rulings, taking over public institutions, and unlawfully persecuting the conservative opposition—something that Jaki’s case perfectly illustrates.
The trial came to international attention after X owner Elon Musk reposted an interview with Jaki on Tuesday, February 11th, calling the prosecutor’s request for a three-year sentence for liking a social media post “insane,” adding:

Thanks to Musk, the short clip amassed over 8 million views on X in less than 24 hours. In a subsequent video that Jaki posted in reply, he showcased the 2018 clip that was originally published by the then-ruling PiS party, and asked Musk to keep supporting free speech and “all people who do not want a world where you are put in jail for liking a tweet.”
In parallel, the Tusk government on Monday suspended Michał Ostrowski, the country’s deputy prosecutor general, for launching the “coup d’etat” investigation into its members, despite him acting at the request of the Constitutional Tribunal, Poland’s highest constitutional judicial body.
Ostrowski was relieved of his duties for at least six months, effective immediately, by Justice Minister Adam Bodnar, who’s also one of the key “suspects” in the investigation that is now also suspended. A separate investigation was launched against Ostrowski by the government-controlled national prosecutors for “the crime of abuse of power.”
Faced with rule-of-law abuse charges, there’s hardly a worse way to establish your innocence than firing and prosecuting the man tasked with investigating your crimes.
This latest political battle began in Poland last week after Bogdan Świeczkowski—president of the constitutional court—officially requested the probe into the government’s rule-of-law abuses, claiming that Tusk and his ministers, as well as other key political allies, were acting “in an organized criminal group,” with the aim of overthrowing the country’s constitutional order.
Ostrowski insists that he launched the probe in accordance with the law and that he will appeal Bodnar’s decision at disciplinary court:
I really just wanted to […] conduct this investigation objectively, which I have been actively pursuing in recent days. Further action has convinced me that it was warranted.
Still, neither the deputy prosecutor general nor Świeczkowski had any illusions about bringing the Tusk government to justice easily. The head of the constitutional court even told Polish media after submitting his request that he expected to be dragged out of his office by armed police any minute.
Naturally, the European Union actively ignores—or worse, denies—what’s happening in Poland. Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen paid a friendly visit to Tusk, a long-time ally and key member of her European People’s Party (EPP) group, just a day after the investigation was charged. At the same time, the chairman of the European Parliament’s civil liberties (LIBE) committee Javier Zarzalejos (EPP) cut off the microphone of a Polish MEP for daring to raise the issue in Brussels at a meeting with Minister Bodnar, who was invited to talk about the rule of law.

And the authorities, as expected, are taking it all very ‘seriously’.

EU’s new “European Union Democracy Shield (EUDS)” committee, which aims to impose more control over tech giants now perceived as aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump, and promote their compliance with “hate speech” laws while imposing more “fact-checking” has gained its chair – French member of European Parliament (MEP) and French President Emmanuel Macron-allied politician Nathalie Loiseau.
The EUDS initiative was first unveiled by EU Commission’s Executive VP Henna Virkkunen, and Loiseau appears to have been given the job in true unelected-Brussels-bureaucracy fashion: this was known before a vote on her nomination took place.
“Nathalie Loiseau will be elected this evening at 6 p.m.,” it was announced early on February 3 by La Lettre (this effective appointment has in the meantime been confirmed).
And it gets worse – another French MEP, Virginie Joron, said that Loiseau had announced she would be elected “the weekend before” those electing her had a chance to vote.

However – given the role that “Democracy Shield” is expected to play, namely, control speech/opinions, this odd process is seen by some as basically symbolic of the body’s purpose – albeit it happens to be one that is “denying democracy.”
Loiseau is a member of the European Parliament’s Renew group, whereas Joron is from the Patriots for Europe (PfE); the manner in which the EUDS selected its chief was particularly offensive to the latter since the PfE had hoped to have its own candidate, Antonio Tanger Correa – but that was rendered pointless by the manner in which Loiseau was appointed.
Correa denounced it as a “sham democracy” while Joron slammed the European Parliament’s “theater” where one can get “elected” before the vote.
Loiseau’s political ties and background – beyond those of Macron backers – might shed some light on why she became the EUDS chief. Namely, those include links with one of the outfits receiving funding from U.S. billionaire George Soros – the European Council for International Relations (ECFR).
Loiseau previously responded to those critical of this by saying she was “proud to exert influence” over what she dubbed a top European think tank.
Now, as the EUDS is about to start hunting down supposed “foreign interference,” critics of her appointment are doubtful that the interference of Soros himself in European politics will be the subject of the committee’s interest.
Convicted criminals in Germany are endorsing Germany’s new gender self-identification law for allowing them to easily hide their pasts by changing their identities. One violent criminal, Mirko Guth, even spoke to local press about his plans to change his legal sex and name by claiming to be transgender.
Guth, who spent several years in prison for violent crimes and aggravated robbery, described using the gender self-identification law to hide his past as a “fuck you to the state,” complaining that he had struggled with difficulties in opening bank accounts and obtaining mobile phone plans due to his lengthy record of serious offenses.
After the Self-Determination Act came into effect in Germany on November 1, 2024, individuals were permitted to change their legal sex and name through a simple declaration at the registry office. The new law also included a disclosure ban, which prohibits passing on the real sex and former name without consent and imposes harsh penalties for those who “misgender” or “deadname” a person who has changed their legal identity.
“This is the paragraph that erases my past,” Guth told Die Welt regarding the disclosure ban. “I am bankrupt and can’t get work contracts anymore. If I become a woman, I can have a mobile phone, an Amazon account, and a Netflix account again.”
“I can’t be mistaken for a woman. I believe I don’t have a single feminine trait,” Guth, who is bald and covered in tattoos told Die Welt. “I’m doing this out of desperation.”
Guth reports that he first got the idea to take advantage of the law from a woman he had worked with at the youth welfare office. After being released from prison, Guth had attempted to offer his services as a “reformed criminal” to a youth-focused organization called “Gefangene helfen Jugendlichen e.V“ (Prisoners Help Youth). This association of former prisoners organized prison visits, conducted school prevention education, and offered anti-violence training intended to steer at-risk kids away from a life of crime.
However, the state cut off financial support for the association in 2024, leaving Guth dejected. He then pursued changing his legal sex and name.
Guth reports that many of his friends with criminal records will similarly seek to change their legal sex and names under the law. But not only do they seek to erase their past, they also plan to deliberately invade women’s washrooms and locker rooms, hoping to be thrown out so they can sue for discrimination and collect compensation.

Doris Lange, the owner of Lady’s First fitness studio, reported that one week after she was ordered to pay a €1,000 fine, she received a demand from Holstein’s lawyers for an additional €2,500 in compensation, along with a threat of a €5,000 penalty if she were to deny him access to the women-only gym in the future.

Barbaric is also being ordered to sign a cease-and-desist declaration, which would entitle Liebich to collect a €10,000 fine from her if she ever misgender him in the future and is raising funds for her legal defense.
In addition to hiding their criminal past and finding an easy payday, some men have admitted to using the self-determination law to avoid conscription and commit bank fraud.
One man who spoke to Die Welt said he hoped to avoid military service by altering his legal sex to “female” in the event a war broke out in Germany. However, the law does include a specific regulation forbidding sudden “sex changes” in the midst of impending or active war.
In other cases, men have planned to open multiple bank accounts in different federal states, obtain loans, withdraw the money, and then change their gender identity and name.
Spokespersons from Commerzbank and the Federal Association of German Banks (BdB) have expressed doubts that this plan would work, as they only grant significant overdrafts and loans if regular net income, for example from salary payments, is present in the account. However, a criminal in Berlin pulled off a similar heist in 2023, prior to the introduction of the Self-Determination Act.
The 32-year-old man claimed to be “transgender” at several registry offices, and thus obtained new personal documents multiple times. With the obtained documents, he opened several bank accounts, withdrew the money, entered into contracts with mobile phone providers, and made online purchases. According to the public prosecutor’s office, further investigations are pending against the accused for the same fraudulent scheme.

The police union had previously warned that easing the regulations around changing legal documents would open the floodgates to criminals seeking to use the law to avoid detection or commit further crimes. Registrars and government officials have also expressed fears of becoming the targets of discrimination complaints if they refuse or question the motives of some change requests.
Since the implementation of the Self-Determination Act at the end of November, almost 15.000 individuals in Germany have altered their legal sex. This figure significantly surpasses the initial estimate of 4,000 changes per year.
