At least four pupils were injured, some of them seriously, in a rampage at a grammar school in Wuppertal on Thursday. According to the Bild newspaper, the perpetrator is a 17-year-old Muslim with a migration background. He stabbed himself in the chest after the first attacks and is in mortal danger.
“There was an argument in the school corridor – then he pulled out the knife. He stabbed wildly, aiming for the shoulders, neck and then the heads of the other pupils,” said one pupil, recounting the attack.
The security forces were deployed with a large contingent and numerous special forces. “As far as we know, several pupils were injured with a stabbing weapon and are currently undergoing medical treatment. There is no precise information about their state of health. The attacker himself is critically injured,” said the Wuppertal police. The school was completely evacuated. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the perpetrator used several stabbing weapons.
According to the newspaper, the emergency services have since found a letter of confession in which the perpetrator is said to have written that an inner compulsion had ordered him to kill.
