It is no secret that the German Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, is a supporter of the Antifa. It is therefore not surprising that the Social Democratic Party (SPD) politician suspects “right-wing extremists” everywhere. It becomes problematic, however, when Faeser, in her crusade against “right-wing extremism” conducted with almost religious fervour, negates the greatest security threat to Germany besides left-wing extremism, namely Islamism.
There is no other way to interpret the decision to discontinue the work of the expert group on political Islamism, founded by Faeser’s predecessor Horst Seehofer ( Christian Social Union, CSU) only last year. The newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” writes: “Now the expert group is no longer to continue its work. According to the report on the protection of the constitution, the threat posed by Islamist terrorism in Germany continues unabated. But there is no longer a CSU man in the Ministry of the Interior, but an SPD woman. And Nancy Faeser has dedicated herself above all to fighting right-wing extremism.”
The discontinuation of the Expert Group on Political Islamism is causing sharp criticism from various sides. The AfD deputy chairperson and member of the Bundestag, Mariana Harder-Kühnel, emphasises: “Around 30,000 people who sympathise with Islamist terror pose a massive danger to the constitutional state, its institutions and, above all, its citizens”.
The Islamism expert Rebecca Schönenbach points out to the “Bild” newspaper that women are the group that is particularly threatened and discriminated against by Islamists and that the left-wing traffic light coalition has taken up the cause of combating discrimination: “In doing so, the federal government is denying protection to those of all people who urgently need it. Besides women, vulnerable groups such as young people are left to Islamists who will try to radicalise as many as possible.”
