Yesterday evening, Villa Verucchio, a municipality in the Rimini area, was the scene of a dramatic attack that led to the death of an Egyptian citizen. The man, armed with a knife, hit four people in the street, causing panic among those present. The first to be attacked was an 18-year-old, wounded in the back while he was at a vending machine to buy cigarettes. The boy’s friends, having noticed what had happened, tried to help him, but the assailant did not stop and continued his mad rush, also attacking an elderly couple and a girl.
The situation quickly escalated, forcing the Carabinieri to intervene. When the military arrived on the scene, they attempted to stop the attacker, who, in a moment of extreme tension, tried to stab one of the Carabinieri. In response to this threat, the soldier shot, fatally wounding the man. It is still unclear what drove the Egyptian citizen to commit such a violent act, especially in the context of New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The injured people were immediately assisted by the 118 health workers and transported to the hospital. Three of the injured were taken to the ‘Bufalini’ hospital in Cesena, while another was transferred to the ‘Infermi’ hospital in Rimini. Fortunately, none of them are in danger of life. The magistrate on duty also intervened at the scene of the accident to start the investigations. The community of Villa Verucchio is shocked by this tragic event, which abruptly interrupted an evening of celebration.
