The event was billed as a sporting event, but the Hamburg police didn’t believe it and turned up with a large contingent outside the gymnasium.
The officers rather suspected that a meeting of Islamists would take place in the gym in Ladenbeker Furtweg in Hamburg-Bergedorf on Saturday evening.
At around 9.25 pm, the police arrived with 18 police cars and several police dogs in front of gyms 1 and 2. Wearing protective clothing, the police entered the premises and surrounded the halls.
Both buildings were searched and the personal details of the 250 or so participants were taken.
The organiser had previously registered a sports event in the Bergedorf sports centre. On closer inspection by the investigating authorities, the suspicion arose that it could be a different event.
Which event it actually was in the end was not yet known on Sunday morning.
During the raid, the officers encountered considerable resistance. The LKA and state security have started investigations.

The participants were released after their identities were established on site. Based on the personal connections established, it is likely that the event was Islamist in nature.
During the inspection of the property, the police found several knives that could not be attributed to any of the people present at the time.
