Salafist and online preacher Ibrahim El-Azzazi reaches countless young people in German-speaking countries via social media. In an interview with the tabloid ‘BILD’, he has now caused quite a stir.
In it, he takes the brutal punishments of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan for granted. In other words: flogging women who violate the rules of Sharia (Islamic law) is a divine command, i.e. in the spirit of Allah. Stoning of homosexuals ( to death) – likewise.
Asked by ‘BILD’ whether women and men have equal rights, his clear answer is: ‘No’. And whether women should be allowed to live alone? Unimaginable.

El-Azzazi, who is being closely monitored by the German domestic intelligence service, also spreads the ‘Islamic rules’ in Germany via his social media channels. He says: ‘Germany doesn’t have a monopoly on always being right and always being perfect.’
When asked by ‘BILD’ whether the free and democratic basic order within Germany does not always take precedence, El-Azazzi asks back: ‘Is it the case that we have to consider the German basic order to be the best in the world?
