Apparently because of his Christian religious beliefs, a man has been beaten up in the Wedding district of Berlin.

Passers-by found the 24-year-old man collapsed on the road at a junction late on Monday evening, police said on Tuesday. They alerted the emergency services, who took the man to hospital with a facial injury.

When questioned, the 24-year-old stated that he had been asked by five strangers about his religious affiliation. When he said that he was baptised as a Christian, the strangers hit him several times on the head. According to the police, the suspected attackers fled in an unknown direction. State security took over the investigation.
