He wanted to “slaughter infidels”: IS terrorist (18) arrested at the Austrian border

Suben, aprespost.at

A young Moroccan (18) allegedly planned a terrorist attack with a fully automatic weapon, according to intelligence services. He wanted to “slaughter many infidels”, they said. Now he was arrested at the Austrian border near Suben (Upper Austria).

What exactly the Islamist, who had been under surveillance by the security authorities since last summer, wanted to do in Austria is still unclear. It is possible that he wanted to obtain the weapon or ammunition with which he planned his attack in Austria. A meeting with domestic IS supporters is not ruled out, as is an attempt to leave for Iraq via Vienna-Schwechat in order to get support for his plans there.

Most recently, the Moroccan lived in Frankfurt/Main, where the police searched his flat in August. Cross connections to the IS with pictures of executions and Islamist fighters were discovered on different storage media.

The prosecution accuses him of having planned an Islamist-motivated attack. According to the police, he wanted to injure or kill as many people as possible with a fully automatic firearm. In order to realise his plan, he allegedly researched on the internet for construction manuals for explosive and incendiary devices as well as remote detonation mechanisms. He had also stashed a long stabbing weapon in his parents’ garage.
