Two women became victims of a sexual assault in Sondershausen ( a district in the Kyffhäuser region) on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police reports, two 22-year-olds assaulted and sexually harassed two women at around 5.50 pm. One of the perpetrators attacked a 55-year-old woman on Wipperdamm in the direction of the street Alexander-Puschkin-Promenade.
A 73-year-old woman witnessed the attack and tried to rescue the other woman. However, she fell in the process. One of the attackers took advantage of this. He lay down on the fallen woman and performed sexual acts on her. The perpetrator only let go of his victim when the 55-year-old woman intervened.
As the women continued to walk towards the street, one of the perpetrators pulled the 73-year-old’s handbag. Thanks to the courageous intervention of passers-by, the perpetrator was held until the police arrived. The second offender was later arrested at his home.
The women were only slightly injured in the attack. Their psychological trauma, however, is likely to be much more serious. According to the police, the main perpetrator is a man from Afghanistan.
