On Tuesday evening, at around 8:10 pm, the Saarland police command and control centre received several emergency calls reporting that two groups of people were fighting in the pedestrian zone in Dillingen (photo).

Police officers immediately attended the scene. However, only part of the group could be identified at the scene, all of whom had suffered superficial injuries in the altercation.

Investigations into the facts of the case revealed that there had initially been a verbal altercation between a group of five people and a passing couple outside a pub. The group then started to get violent with the 22-year-old man of the couple.

The two groups initially split up and left the location in different directions. A short time later, the group of five and the couple met again outside the pub, with both parties being supported by friends/acquaintances. There were about 10 people in total. The two groups of people attacked each other, using a machete, a kitchen knife and several belts, among other things. Chairs, tables and glasses were also tossed or used as weapons.

Shortly before the police arrived, the group surrounding the suspects and other participants left in an unknown direction. Only four people from the group of injured parties could be identified at the scene.

According to the current state of the investigation, one group is made up of Syrian nationals.

The investigation is ongoing.
