In the early hours of Monday evening, May 5, 2025, a 25-year-old Syrian who lives in Bitterfeld-Wolfen spray-painted a symbol and lettering on an advertising pillar on the corner of Große Münzstraße and Otto-von-Guericke Straße in Magdeburg.

A young man was observed by an attentive Magdeburg woman using black spray paint to spray a swastika and lettering on an advertising pillar located there.

Thanks to the courageous behaviour of the witness, the 25-year-old man was kept in sight at all times so that police officers from the state police were able to identify and check the man shortly afterwards in Brandenburger Straße.

The police officers consequently found and seized the alleged weapon – a spray can of black paint – in the rucksack he was carrying.

No details can yet be given about the damage caused.

The Magdeburg police have opened a corresponding investigation.
