Major police alert: During a routine check at the main railway station, a German-Afghan was caught with a weapons case. A short time later, heavily armed police stormed his flat. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating.
The police briefly confirm the incident at the main railway station and a search of a flat. The federal police, however, do not give any further details, but refer to the press office of the state police.
The newspaper BILD reports that the man is known to the police and is considered a dangerous person. He is said to be a religious extremist and was caught by chance. The federal police carried out a major weapons check at the main railway station at the weekend, with more than 100 officers on the spot. More than 600 travellers were checked.
At 11.15 p.m., the man with the suitcase was noticed at the main railway station. Not far from the railway tracks, Hafez A. (20) was arrested by federal police officers, at the height of the so-called Fischerturm. From there, the underground and suburban trains as well as the long-distance trains go to the station.
Inside the man’s suitcase: two machetes, a hatchet, several knives, a prepared pair of scissors, a telescopic baton!
Handcuffs were applied and he was arrested! The suspicion: Was Hafez A. on his way to an attack? In the past, even the Federal Criminal Police Office is said to have dealt with the 20-year-old.
Emergency meeting, the public prosecutor’s office was informed. The decision: Flat search. A large contingent of heavily armed federal police rushed to the south of Hamburg. The dangerous man’s flat is located in the Hausbruch district, about 18 kilometres from the main railway station.
Police officers with machine guns ready to fire surrounded the apartment building and broke open the door of A.’s flat at around 5 o’clock.
BILD learned that storage media and another telescopic baton were seized. The evaluation of the USB sticks and the hard drives is ongoing.
The dangerous person carrying the weapons case is to appear before a magistrate.
