A man who allegedly attacked three federal police officers with a knife in Lauf an der Pegnitz near Nuremberg on Sunday has died after being shot by police. The 34-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the incident at the railway station, a spokesman for the Middle Franconia police said in the evening. Immediately initiated first aid measures could not have saved his life.
According to the spokesman, the attacker had initially attacked a federal police car on patrol. When the officers got out of the car, he also attacked the officers themselves. “A knife was also involved,” said the spokesperson. In the evening, the police released details about the attacker. The police had previously announced on X that a shootout had taken place following a previous attack on federal police officers. There is no danger to the population.” According to the police spokesperson, the square in front of the railway station is closed.
