Fear caused by a knife in the afternoon on the Eurocity express train from Copenhagen to Hamburg. A man in a carriage threatens passengers with a knife – major red alert for the police!
Federal police spokesman Hanspeter Schwartz: “An unscheduled stop was ordered at Neumünster station and various police cars from the state and federal police were sent to the station.”
Shortly before, passengers had alerted the officers at 3.20 pm, who responded immediately. When the train pulled into the station in Neumünster ten minutes later, the police officers were already waiting at the track. They searched all compartments and were finally able to drag the knifeman off the train. The 28-year-old Syrian was arrested.
The man had been hiding in the toilet. The federal police officers seized a knife from him. No one was physically injured, but a shocked child had to be cared for by chaplains and was taken to hospital. The train crew was also replaced. After all witnesses had been questioned, the Eurocity could proceed with its journey. The background of the crime is still unclear.
The incident is reminiscent of the horrific act of violence committed by Ibrahim A. (33), a man armed with a knife, who killed a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old on a train from Kiel to Hamburg and injured other passengers at the end of January.
