In Peutenhausen, Bavaria, there have been robberies and harassment by Roma and Afghans. The mayor therefore wants to force the closure of the two migrant shelters. The community does not want to take in any more fake, barbarised “war refugees”.
But in mid-December there was an incident that was even more disturbing. Two young Afghans, who according to Tyroller were “drunk off their asses”, disrupted a funeral service in the village church. Older women were sexually harassed, their clothes pulled. One was even bitten in the ear. Fire chief Tyroller’s verdict was clear, albeit moderately delivered: “From then on, it was over for good. When you are a guest, you should behave like a guest. And not like an idiot.”
Tyroller points out that not all migrants behave like that. But the mood in the village changed from then on, he says. In addition, the village’s voluntary helpers’ circle disbanded. Until recently, 25 people in the village looked after refugees and migrants. But more and more gave up the unpaid work – even before the incidents.
The village and the municipality to which it belongs have not been assisted by higher authorities either, adds mayor Alfred Lengler. The community – like so many others – is being ” overburdened” by the impending migration crisis. There are fewer and fewer helpers. And the young men who were constantly arriving were “eventually going crazy”.
The response from the village and the mayor is quite firm. Lengler has terminated the rental contract for two migrant shelters with the district office. actually even without notice, only that was not accepted. Now the leases for the two houses expire at the end of 2023 and on March 31, 2024, respectively. But then there should be an end to assigned migrants in Peutenhausen. “The municipality has done its duty,” says Mayor Lengler.
