Fatal neighbour dispute on Tuesday night! A person died on the ground floor of an apartment building in Wuppertal.
Senior citizen Karl-Heinz K. (82) was presumably stabbed to death with a knife by his neighbour (59). The victim had previously been able to call for help via the house emergency call and give clues to the perpetrator.
It was around 11.40 pm when some neighbours on the street Brunhildenstraße heard the pensioner’s bloodcurdling cries for help. Dull noises of objects being thrown around the flat were also heard.
Apparently, the German-Turkish neighbour living in the flat opposite had rung the senior’s doorbell. When he opened the door, the man stormed into the flat and stabbed the 82-year-old with a knife.
The police and the ambulance service found the seriously injured senior lying in his bed. He had already lost a lot of blood when he was taken to hospital. There, despite emergency surgery, the man died only a few hours later.
Since the victim had given a tip-off about the attacker, the 59-year-old was arrested a short time later in his flat opposite the victim’s flat. A knife, which is likely to be the murder weapon, was seized.
It is still unclear why the neighbour was attacked in his flat. According to the investigators, indications of a mental illness of the 59-year-old attacker are currently being examined. An expert is examining the suspect accordingly.
On Wednesday, the suspected knifeman was admitted to a closed psychiatric ward. A spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday that the judge had seen indications for a mental illness of the man, which might also have had an influence on his culpability.
