Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the company has caused a political stir. Chancellor Scholz is apparently considering retiring there. The reason is “problematic developments” on the platform. It’s not the first negative reaction to the new Twitter boss.
Because of the new Twitter boss Elon Musk, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is considering withdrawing from the online platform. “The Federal Chancellor and the Federal Press Office are watching the development of Twitter very closely since it was taken over by Elon Musk,” government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.
He continued: “We have the task of providing broad information about the work of the federal government and want to use as many channels as possible to reach users where they get information anyway.” The previous government had established Twitter as a communication option and Scholz can thus reach 613 000 users, the government spokesman around 100 000. But now, according to Hebestreit, possible alternatives are being considered. The reason for this is “problematic developments in this network”.
Musk laid off half of the 7 500 employees after the Twitter takeover in October. In addition, the account of former US President Donald Trump has been activated again. That’s why the EU Commission is threatening to close down Twitter in Europe.
