France: Man armed with a knife who entered Imam Chalghoumi’s mosque deported to Algeria

A deportation in due course. On Tuesday October 25, the person who had entered Iman Hassen Chalghoumi’s mosque last Friday armed with a knife was deported to Algeria, CNews reports. This deportation took place at noon. The events that led to his deportation date back to Friday October 21. At around 2pm, the man was spotted with a 30 cm blade in the mosque of Drancy, where Hassen Chalghoumi also is employed.

42-year-old Zidane S., an Algerian national, was arrested without major problems in a prayer room of the Islamic religious building in Seine-Saint-Denis. The man muttered prayers in Arabic during his arrest. He was required to leave French territory and was taken into police custody for possession of a category D weapon. He was subsequently deported to his home country.

“Full support for Imam Chalghoumi following the arrest of a man armed with a knife at the mosque in Drancy. I applaud the courage and responsiveness of the police officers who arrested him,” reacted Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, in charge of religious communities, on Twitter.
