Klaus Kinzler and the Institut d’Études Politiques de Grenoble are history – at least for a while. The German teacher had become known in March of this year when his name was painted on the walls of the IEP by left-wing extremist activists and subsequently disseminated by the UNEF. At the time, the professor was charged with Islamophobia. A case that caused a scandal, only a few months after the case of Samuel Paty, who had also been falsely accused of Islamophobia. Following this, Klaus Kinzler made headlines in the media, denouncing an “ideologically motivated chase” within the IEP. The director of the IEP, Sabine Saurugger, was not amused by this action and suspended the teacher, as reported by the newspaper Le Figaro on Monday December the 20th.
Le Figaro reports that Klaus Kinzler again appeared in the media eight months after the affair. In November, the teacher made more appearances in the media – an activity that had been forbidden to him by his headmaster. According to Sabine Saurugger, Klaus Kinzler had made “defamatory statements in several media against the school (…) as well as against the person of the headmaster”. In her statement, the headmistress mentioned in particular a notable appearance in the programme “Heure des Pros” as well as two interviews with the newspapers “L’Opinion” and “Marianne”. According to Sabine Saurugger, Klaus Kinzler “seriously disregarded several duties associated with his civil servant status” and “seriously violated the professional integrity of his work colleagues”. As a result, the teacher was suspended for four months until a disciplinary council was convened.
