France: It took two Tunisian migrants released from police custody less than ten minutes to commit a further offence

On Friday October 29, two Tunisians aged in their thirties and staying irregularly in Nantes were stopped during a check. They were in possession of items stolen from an ambulance driver’s car, including a jacket, a torch, speakers and a wallet. On spotting the police officers, they fled “out of fear due to their identity documents”, they explained at the hearing on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, where they were charged in an immediate trial. That was not all.At the end of the day, on Saturday October 30, having just come out of police custody and having received a summons to appear in court, “it did not take them ten minutes to commit another offence”, the presiding judge lamented.

In Petit Port, they broke into a vehicle in the same way as the ambulance and stole various items which were then in their possession.

The court sentence: six months imprisonment and six months probation suspended for three months.
