France: A street in the town of Stains is symbolically renamed after the wife of the Prophet Mohammed

The participants of the project “Place aux femmes”, supported by the association Mémoires Croisées, explain: “Women in history are inspiring for us women of today. That’s why when the landlord CDC Habitat social (the funder) and the Maison pour tous des quartiers Maroc et Avenir (the partner) proposed these workshops to us, we immediately agreed. “Place aux femmes” is a participatory art project by photographer and author Philippe Monges, who explains his approach: “I wanted to encourage reflection on the place of women in public space, in our cities and more generally in society. I want to give them more prominence again by naming our streets, homes and public buildings after women who inspire us through their careers or struggles.” A joint commitment with that of the city administration to make the names of public buildings and places more “feminine”, and which therefore convinced the Neighbourhood House.
