A 13-year-old middle school student who attends school in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne) was arrested and then brought before a juvenile court judge. He is suspected of making threatening statements to his classmates on Snapchat, glorifying terrorism and sending them propaganda videos. Among other things, he allegedly claimed that he wanted to join the Islamic State group.
A 13-year-old youth, who showed worrying signs of radicalisation and attended a high school in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne), was arrested on December 9 and subsequently taken into police custody at the Criminal Investigation Department in Evry, according to our information. The minor is suspected of having made several statements to his classmates glorifying terrorism, in particular via the social network Snapchat.

The teenager is said to have gone much further in his remarks, telling his classmates that “all infidels should be killed”. In recent weeks, he is also said to have refused to approach girls, adding that he had an IS flag and a ring with the terror group’s logo in his room. “He also reportedly told his parents that he wanted to join Daech in Syria and allegedly opened an account on the social network TikTok, using the name of a jihadist,” the same source added.
At the end of his police custody, the boy was brought before a juvenile court judge. He was placed under judicial supervision and is now “subject to a provisional educational measure pending his sentence”, according to the Evry prosecutor’s office.
