America buries them, and Europe too will have a waste mountain of no less than 100 000 tons of non-recyclable windmill blades by 2025. Photos of buried windmill blades have been circulating on social media in recent days.
“It is urgent time for a solution,” said Linde De Vriese of Siris research center on Belgian radio.
Within a few years, the first blades in Europe will need to be replaced. De Vriese expected the peak at around 2040. “That will take another 20 years, but now is the time to think about possible solutions, because we don’t have them yet.”
Biologist Richard Steenvoorden responded: “Stop building windmills and start with ordinary nuclear power plants now, and bet on thorium later. In this way we ensure an energy-secure future. Stop pollution through the fairy tale of ‘renewable energy’ and save on waste and land use.”
Mayor and Member of Parliament (N-VA) Sophie De Wit underscored the dark side of going green: “Just like solar panels, windmills eventually cause a large mountain of waste. That’s called green energy.” Her colleague Tomas Roggeman added: “What was the added value of wind turbines compared to nuclear energy?”
“Being against nuclear energy, because of nuclear waste, but subsequently non-degradable parts of windmills have been buried. We’ve gone crazy,” tweeted Leon Baten of Café Weltschmerz.
