Only children under the age of five and people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons are exempt from the obligation to be injected with an experimental jab. The measure was allegedly necessary because of the increase in infections and the spread of variants such as Omicron.

The BBC reported that the Ministry of Health has declared that there are enough doses to “immunize the entire population”. Only people with a medical justification and children under five years of age are exempt from the obligation to get the shot.
So far, 77,2 percent of the eligible population have received two doses and over 900 000 people have received a booster vaccination. The ministry said the vaccines are a “shield” against the virus to prevent “serious illness, hospitalization and death”. These claims are demonstrably false.
The government claimed the country’s constitution afforded citizens the “right to health” which must be guaranteed by the state. Ecuador has already introduced vaccination cards, which are required in public places such as restaurants, cinemas, theaters and shopping malls.
