Corsica: Statue of the Virgin Mary of Notre-Dame de Lavasina beheaded in Ajaccio

The details were revealed and, above all, spread through social networks. The statue of Notre-Dame de Lavasina, which was placed on the Ajaccio seafront, was decapitated, causing outrage among many internet users.

This is the umpteenth act of vandalism against religious symbols in just a few months in Corsica. On Saturday April 29, the scout camp in the municipality of Vero, where a temporary altar had been set up, had been vandalised.

On April 12, residents in the Sevani neighbourhood of Ajaccio reported vandalism to a statuette of the Virgin Mary placed in a small stone arch near Petit Capo beach. Two weeks later, on April 27, the image of the decapitated cross on Col Saint-Jean in Sisco sparked fierce outrage, for which the mayor of the municipality became the mouthpiece. “This is an outrageous act,” Ange-Pierre Vivoni had responded to it with a comment.
