Cologne: Public call of the muezzin for the first time on Christmas Eve?

Recently, the “Ditib” platform “Moschee Forum” proudly announced that the DITIB central mosque in Cologne had applied to the city for a public call to prayer. Regarding the agreement made with the city of Cologne when the mosque was built in 2008, namely that no public call to prayer would be made, it is succinctly stated that this will be replaced by the “new agreement”.

This means that in future, numerous mosques will have their muezzin yelled using loudspeakers every Friday. Even on one of the highest Christian holidays of the year, namely December 24 – Christmas Eve.

As predicted by the AfD, there are increasing signs that the two-year “model project” will become permanent. Ditib” states that “the duration is currently not foreseeable”.

Joachim Paul, member of the AfD federal executive committee, explains:

“While Christmas markets are being cancelled all over Germany, citizens in cities and towns should soon hear the call of the muezzin – and that via loudspeakers and this year on Christmas Eve of all days. The citizens are now witnessing every day how the established and old parties on the one hand roll out the prayer rug for political Islam and open up spaces of social influence, and on the other hand actively pursue the dismantling of Christian traditions and customs at all levels. Islamists and fundamentalists are rubbing their hands. They are likely to watch this development carefully and – quite rightly – take it as a sign of weakness. This also applies to an EU guide that advises to avoid terms like ‘Christmas’, instead preferring to speak of ‘holidays’. The author of the foreword, EU Equal Opportunities Commissioner Helena Dalli, recently made headlines for meeting with Islamists. It’s as if Europe has no cultural roots and is only a hotbed for left-wing social engineers.

In the long term, this policy endangers social peace and social cohesion and promotes the aspirations of Islamists, who can now proclaim to their followers that a society oblivious to tradition is ripe for their plans. Only the AfD opposes these plans and rejects the call of the muezzin – it does not compensate for a deficit in the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion, but represents a claim to power that is particularly dubious and questionable in the context of the dismantling of our traditions by the established and the old parties – especially on Christmas Eve.”
