Vienna is not resting: In the night of Monday, there was the fourth knife attack by Syrian suspects in only 48 hours. A youth (15) together with an as yet unknown person stabbed a man (19) – before that, the two attackers had whistled at him and his girlfriend.

A young couple (19 and 20 years old) walked to a bus stop in the 14th district near Hütteldorferstraße at 0.30 a.m. on Monday night. There they were approached by two young men. They suddenly changed direction and crept up behind the couple. The young men started whistling after the lovers.

The 19-year-old boy did not want to listen to this any longer. He turned around and asked them why they were whistling at him and his girlfriend. The two suspects immediately reacted with violence: they kicked and hit the young man. In addition, one of the alleged perpetrators, a 15-year-old Syrian national, allegedly threatened to kill the victim with a knife in his hand. When a bus pulled into the bus stop there, the suspects escaped.

The victim and his girlfriend got on the bus, where they finally noticed a puncture in the young man’s back. He was subsequently given emergency medical care by emergency services of the Vienna Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. There is no danger to his life. In the course of an immediately initiated search, one of the two perpetrators of violence, the 15-year-old Syrian, was arrested. He had the alleged weapon with him. The knife was seized. The manhunt for the second suspect is ongoing.

After the “weekend of violence”, which saw three violent crimes with knives and the murder of an Iranian in the Simmering district of Vienna, the second week of May has now also begun in a bloody manner with the fourth knife attack within 48 hours. All suspects were Syrians, the youngest suspect is 13 years old.
