Austria: Left-wing Turks attack a mosque and Muslims and Leftists blame it on Islamophobes

When several window panes of the ATIB mosque in the Vienna district of Favoriten were smashed in the early hours of Wednesday, February 2, the Greens and above all the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) were quick to make prejudgements. Representatives of both parties constructed the narrative of “hostility towards Muslims” among Austrians. Now it has emerged that the masked perpetrators were probably a PKK sub-organisation called APOCU.

In a video of confession on the website Nûçe Ciwan, the attack on the ATIB mosque is proudly made public, and the text above it says:

The martyr Amara Cudi APOCU Youth Initiative organised an action against the association of the fascist Turkish state in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

In a statement, the chairman of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) in the Vienna district of Favoriten, Stefan Berger, considers the radical left-wing and foreign PKK attack on the ATIB mosque to be proven on the basis of the video of the confession. Berger said:

It is particularly perfidious when Favoriten becomes the venue for foreign conflicts and the SPÖ, the Greens as well as those affected frame this with the Austrians’ hostility towards Muslims. A public apology from National Councillor El-Nagashi and District Councillor Yüksek as well as a clear distancing of the Greens and the SPÖ from associations close to Erdogan such as ATIB and the left-wing extremist violence of the PKK, which is actively supported by the local Antifa, is inevitable and long overdue.

Both National Council member Fakir El-Nagashi from the Green Party and district councillor Muhammed Yüksek (SPÖ) had accepted the claims and accusations of the ATIB uncritically and without questioning, said Berger.

Berger sees district councillor Yüksek as a particular mood-setter in the immigrant community. On Facebook, the SPÖ man shared four posts about the attack, complaining among other things that too few media representatives were on the scene. He wrote:

…The reality was different, no journalists, no television and no cameras! As so often in many conversations with Muslims, the statement “we are the orphans of Austria” is confirmed! Thanks to the chairman and the press officer Mr. Yasar Ersoy for their time and to the many journalists of Turkish origin who also reported.

Ich rief heute den Vorsitzenden der Atib-Moschee in Favoriten Hrn. Fatih Yilmaz an, um mein Mitgefühl und Solidarität zu…
