Brahim Aouissaoui was sentenced to life imprisonment with indefinite preventive detention, i.e. an de facto life sentence, by the Paris Special Court on Wednesday for the knife attack on the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice in 2020, in which three people were killed.

Brahim Aouissaoui has broken out of his silence and overcome his memory gap. The alleged attacker at the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption basilica in Nice, who has been on trial for a fortnight for the murder of three people in a knife attack on the 29th of October 2020, was questioned by the presiding judge of the Paris Special Court for Criminal Matters and finally admitted to the crimes on Monday morning.
‘Yes, I admit to the offences,’ the defendant said. ‘I am not a terrorist, I am a Muslim,’ Brahim Aouissaoui clarified, justifying his offence on the grounds that “Muslims die every day”. ‘Every day you kill Muslims and you don’t care. You have no empathy for these people,’ he added. The West was ‘blindly’ killing ‘innocent’ Muslims and ‘revenge’ was ‘a right and a truth’, he said.
