Arab civil war in Essen, Germany: It is all about a parking space

A background for the civil war-like clashes on June 25 in Essen has been clarified. Up to 400 members of extended Arab families attacked each other with knives, baseball bats, tables and chairs. Several people were injured, one of them fatally.

A small question from the AfD parliamentary group to the state government has now shed some light on the matter. According to this, a dispute over a parking space is said to have triggered the mass brawl. This was reported by the Ministry of the Interior led by Herbert Reul (CDU). The “Battle of Essen” had caused quite a stir, especially since there were repeated clashes between clan members in the city in the following days.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the background of the quarrel has not yet been fully clarified. However, it is assumed that on the afternoon of June 25, five clan members had argued about a parking space. In the evening, members of the extended families met in a restaurant in the Altendorf district. In the end, 200 to 400 people had turned on each other. Many were armed with knives or baseball bats. Chairs and tables were also used as weapons.

A 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the neck. The Ministry of the Interior reported that a man four years younger than him was suspected of the crime. The latter is said to have been stabbed in the stomach by the later victim.
