Thea was killed by her stepfather on her second birthday: He was convicted even though he had fled to Morocco.
A Belgian family that had been waiting for justice for many years is relieved. The murderer of a little girl who had died in 2005 was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Morocco. This sentence was higher than the one imposed in Belgium. The perpetrator had managed to flee before his appeal trial. He was tracked down again thanks to the family’s efforts.
Little Thea died at the age of two on her birthday. She was beaten to death by a man: Mounir Kiouh, her mother’s new partner.
In 2011, the man was sentenced to 15 years in prison in Belgium, first at first instance and then on appeal. Between court proceedings, he fled to Morocco.
After a long search, Thea’s family finds him. In 2018, the relatives travel to Tetouan to file charges on April 23. Three days later, the suspect is arrested.
The Moroccan judiciary then considers itself competent to try him. “The issue is Article 707 of the Moroccan Penal Code. Any Moroccan citizen who commits a crime abroad but is not legally convicted can be tried in his country for the same offence. This is the article that helped us,” explains Karine Gramtine, Thea’s aunt. RTL info
