There was a knife attack in the high-speed train (ICE) between Regensburg and Nuremberg on Saturday morning.
According to the newspaper BILD, three people were injured. Two of them were seriously injured, but their lives are not in danger. The gender of the victims is still unclear.
The knife attacker was arrested on the spot. According to BILD, he is a 27-year-old man of Arab origin. He is said to have been psychologically conspicuous and to have called for help on the train.
Investigators are currently ruling out a terrorist background.
Around 300 passengers were on the ICE train from Regensburg to Hamburg. Luckily, two platoons of the Bavarian police support unit (Unterstützungskommando) were on their way to the football match in Regensburg and were in the immediate vicinity at the time of the attack.
Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (72, Christian Social Union) thanked the police and the train crew. His spokesman Steve Alter posted a statement by Seehofer on Twitter.
The attack occurred at around 9 a.m. near Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate. The train is currently in Seubersdorf, south-east of Nuremberg. The police headquarters of the Upper Palatinate is on the scene with a large contingent. At the moment, the criminal investigation department and the forensics department are in the ICE to secure evidence.
