Despite a dissolution decree ratified by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Wednesday September 29, 2021, some books published by Nawa, which has close links with the “Islamist community of Artigat” and the NGO BarakaCity, are being sold in a bookshop in the centre of Toulouse, La Dépêche has discovered. Among the 26 books distributed by Nawa, one in particular caught the attention of the Interior Ministry: “Lire et comprendre Qotb”, written by the essayist Aïssam Aït-Yahya.
“He was an Egyptian philosopher who was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, of which Tariq Ramadan’s grandfather is the founder. These people are only concerned with gaining power, not religion,” Nawa said in a statement rejecting these “ridiculous” accusations. For Qotb, however, jihad is a necessity. As of Tuesday, the book was still available on Amazon and Muslim shop websites, the daily said. Other books sold in downtown Toulouse are inspired by Mohamed Hassan, an Egyptian who advocates suicide bombings. “But Nawa is not the only one. Take a closer look at Al Bayyinah publishing house,” is the stubborn defence of the publisher, which has appealed against Gérald Darmanin’s decision. Nawa was contacted several times by La Dépêche, but did not respond to their requests.
