The punishment is astonishing, especially since the person in question had bragged about his misdeeds on social media. A young man had filmed himself stealing equipment from a fire truck and was finally arrested on Saturday October 2. However, according to Valeurs actuelles on Monday October 4, he was released after less than 24 hours in police custody and the requirement to complete a “naturalisation course”. In his videos, however, he had also insulted firefighters and threatened to kill police officers.
In an interview with CNews on Monday October 4, JĂ©rĂŽme Jimenez, a delegate of the police union Unsa, denounced that “the death threats constitute a kind of terrorism, because they repeat the words ‘Allah Akbar’ and imitate the sound of a Kalashnikov”. He pointed out that such offences are punishable by five years’ imprisonment. Simple public insults to public officials or administrations are also punishable by a fine of 12,000 euros.
The man, who described himself in the video posted on Snapchat as an “Arab and Muslim suburbanite”, had filmed himself stealing equipment from a fire truck in Ablon-sur-Seine. In another video he said, “I’m going to finish them off. I will go to a police station, Allah Akbar,” before miming a shooting. Under the pseudonym Rayan, the young man has tens of thousands of followers on social media.
This terrorist and those like him will continue to behave like this and escalate the violence because your police and politicians are weak and do nothing to really punish them. In the United States they face real jail time for such acts.
