High number of sexual crimes committed by Afghan asylum seekers also in Germany

Martin Hess, deputy spokesperson for domestic policy of the AfD parliamentary group, has submitted a parliamentary question to the federal government on cases of crime at railway stations and on trains. The federal government’s answer confirms the assumption that Afghans, whose share of the population was 0.33 per cent at the end of 2020, were significantly overrepresented among suspects in the first half of 2021. Hess comments on this:

“For sexual offences, Afghans made up 4.5 percent of the suspects, the enquiries about previous years show: This trend is long-term and must be reversed as soon as possible by deportations and harsh punishments. 9.5 per cent of the people suspected of pushing people into the track bed were Afghan nationals in the first half of 2021. Crime at railway stations and on trains must be tackled effectively. And the high crime rate of Afghan asylum immigrants must not be made a taboo. To prevent Germany from becoming even more unsafe, Afghan asylum seekers must be aided in their home country.”
