On Friday 29 September, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Paris following an investigation. He is suspected of having plotted jihadist-inspired violence, according to BFMTV. A native of the Paris region, he has been indicted and remanded in custody for criminal terrorist association.
He was also in contact with two other individuals: a 17-year-old secondary school pupil and a 21-year-old law student, both known to be radicalised and suspected of planning violent actions inspired by jihadism. They had already been indicted in this case. The man arrested on Friday is suspected of trying to take part in punitive expeditions.
Favourable to radical Islam
The police intervened following his activity on social networks. The student was said to be a supporter of radical Islam. He wanted to carry out a knife attack, “without a specific target”. “They are young, between 15 and 21, intelligent. Often solitary, they suffer from personal frustration and are in search of values”, explained a source close to the case.
A magistrate decided to incarcerate them “in anticipation of the risk of a repeat offence, and to avoid fraudulent conspiracy”. The other two suspects were indicted in March and June 2023.
