A bus carrying asylum seekers has been prevented from entering the site of Columb Barracks in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
A group of protesters gathered at the front gates of the former barracks and blocked the bus from entering.
The bus arrived shortly after 1pm and has now left the area.
The protesters remain at the front gates.
They are opposed to a plan to accommodate the asylum seekers in tents at the former army barracks.
Gardaí also remain at the barracks this evening.
It was the second bus to arrive at the barracks today.
At 11.30am another bus entered the site, carrying the first group of asylum seekers.
In February, the Department of Integration confirmed that 120 asylum seekers were to be accommodated in 15 tents at the barracks.
A protest has been ongoing outside the former barracks by a group opposed to the plan.
The army barracks closed in Mullingar in 2012.
The 25-acre site, in the centre of the town, is now used by up to 30 community groups.
