A Kano Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu, Kano State, has sentenced Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara to death by hanging for blasphemy.

Okay.ng understands that the cleric was found guilty of making unethical statements against Prophet Muhammad.

The judge, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, delivered the conviction after a court session lasting over two hours. Before giving his verdict, the judge stated that he was convinced that the prosecution had proven their points beyond a reasonable doubt.

Among the charges against him was the accusation that his sermons could cause unrest in Kano State.

After he was found guilty, Judge Sarki Yola adjourned the court to allow him to write the verdict against the cleric. After some time, the court reconvened and the verdict was delivered.

Before the court adjourned, Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara spoke for the last time, saying that his lawyer did not know him and he did not seek forgiveness because, in his opinion, he had not committed any crime and therefore should not be punished.
