A 30-year-old man who surrendered to police on Thursday after seriously injuring his mother with a knife to the neck has been charged with “attempted murder”, the Lille prosecutor’s office said on Monday.
“The person accused has admitted to the crime, which is said to have been committed for personal and religious reasons,” prosecutor Carole Etienne told AFP when asked about the alleged motives for the crime.
On Thursday, in response to AFP’s question about a possible radicalisation of the accused, she had explained that he was “not known to the police and judicial authorities so far” but had “converted to Islam for several years”. BFMTV
