After the horrific double murder of a mother of three (35) and her daughter (15) in the Mariahilf district of Vienna, an arrest has been made at an asylum centre in France. In the past weeks, the Tunisian partner of the mother was searched for – but without a mugshot.
As the Federal Criminal Police Office announced on Monday morning, Mahmoud N. (49), the former partner of the killed mother (32), was arrested in the French city of Brest. The Tunisian had been wanted since the beginning of August.
The Federal Criminal Police Office was even able to trace the escape route of the suspected murderer. Shortly after the crime, he had fled by train to France, where he managed to go into hiding in an Arab community. The Federal Criminal Police Office’s target search first led to the western French region around Paris, and later to western France, where he was arrested by French officials on September 13, 2022, after a total of 39 days of searching, when he was being dined in a shelter for asylum seekers.
Mahmoud N. (49) is strongly suspected of having strangled his partner (32) and their eldest daughter (15) in their flat in the Mariahilf district of Vienna on the night of August 3 to 4. The Tunisian had been on the run since the crime. Two of the woman’s sons – aged seven and nine – are now orphans.
