Ten Saxon prisoners were released from prison in 2021 by the Higher Regional Court because their cases were not processed quickly enough. Among them is one of the masterminds of the weapons smuggling of 2019.
Review: On February 18, 2020, the Federal Police arrest two Bosnians (17, 28) at the main railway station. In their Mercedes car: 95 hand grenades, four Kalashnikovs, eight pistols and ammunition for a buyer in Belgium. The couriers are convicted shortly afterwards.
The alleged masterminds of the arms deal were brought to trial in January 2020. Only Adin K. (27) is sentenced to three years in prison, the co-defendant Aladin K. (31) is acquitted.
On appeal by the public prosecutor’s office, the Federal Supreme Court overturns the verdict in October 2020. The Regional Court would have to retry the case and the trial is delayed. On May 25, 2021, the Higher Regional Court also revokes the warrant for Adin K.’s arrest.
There is no new trial scheduled yet. Thomas Ziegler (53): “As soon as a date is set, we will summon the accused abroad.”
