Yesterday, Saturday afternoon, between 1 and 6 p.m., a registered rally of the movement Pax Europa took place in the Reichsstraße in Saarbrücken. According to the group, it is “committed to the preservation of Christian-Jewish culture in Germany and Europe and the preservation of the free democratic basic order”.
The right-wing populists therefore want to inform about a “creeping Islamisation of Europe”. Accordingly, the Saarbrücken event is also registered with the theme “Education about political Islam”. One of the speakers is Michael Stürzenberger.
He is also known as a Pegida activist and massively criticises the Quran and Islam in his nationwide appearances. About 150 citizens take part in the demo, according to the police. Not only people who support the position of the assembly show a keen interest in the rally. Passers-by, who obviously criticise the topic of the rally and the speeches, also interfere.
Therefore, in the course of the event, there are provocations between participants and mainly Muslim passers-by. The vibes heat up to such an extent that further disturbances can only be prevented by quick and consistent intervention by the police. About 40 police officers are on the scene and act as human shields against the two groups. The identity of the troublemakers was established and several criminal proceedings were initiated.
According to police reports, there were bodily injuries and offences against the state. The police did not give any information about the number and severity of the injuries. The authorities do not say whether emergency services were also injured. Further investigations are being carried out by the state security department at the state police headquarters.
