On July 28, Gérald Darmanin had officially announced that Imam Hassan Iquioussen was to be expelled from French territory. Since then, however, the radical preacher has appealed to the Council of State to try to reverse this decision. A month later, Le Point reported on August 27 that it had gained access to a 48-page dossier of incriminating documents about the imam’s gaffes. Anti-Semitism, misogyny, incitement to hatred of Christians, legitimisation of violence: the archive compiled by the Interior Ministry is extensive, to say the least.
The dossier first underlines the close relationship between Hassan Iquioussen and the Muslim Brotherhood, which propagates a subjugation of women or even hatred of Jews and the West. The preacher did not hesitate to declare that “the place of women is in the kitchen”. “Allah has created you as a sister so that you can take responsibility for your family,” he said in one of his videos. He has also called “secularism”, “the Catholics” and “the Jews” “enemies” and called Osama bin Laden a “great warrior” and a “great defender of Islam”. The preacher also legitimised jihad on several occasions.
Another problematic statement was when he spoke of “pseudo attacks” in 2012 in connection with the 9/11 attacks in the USA and the killing spree of Mohammed Merah in Toulouse. Hassan Iqouissen had stated that these “pseudo attacks are aimed at making non-Muslims afraid so that they are afraid of Islam and Muslims”. In several videos between 2015 and 2020, the imam also called on Muslims to resist assimilation, to live their faith conspicuously and to use violence if necessary. Also rejecting integration, he had also rejected French civil marriage, recalling that “religious marriage is the only one accepted by the Quran”. An extensive file and a judgement by the Council of State expected soon.
